Uila Vendiola – Board member – Kahuku High and Intermediate School Vice-Principal 

Uila Vendiola is best known as “Coach Uila” to most students and this is her 10th year at Kahuku High & Intermediate School. She was born and raised in Laie and graduated from Kahuku in 1993. her husband, Kawika, is also a Kahuku graduate and works at BYU-Hawaii. She lives in Laie and enjoys spending her time with her large extended family!

For the past 10 years she has taught AVID, an Academic Elective class which focuses on preparing students for college, and mainly works with Juniors and Seniors. Last year, she graduated 21 AVID Seniors. All but 4 of them will be in college this year, while the rest will join them after serving a church mission. The AVID Class of 2014 earned over $325,000 in scholarships which made her very proud.  She has also been the AVID Coordinator since the program first began at KHIS in 2004. There nearly 170 students in grades 7-12 in our school’s AVID program.

In addition to AVID, she has taught various subjects including AP US Government & Politics, Participation in Democracy, and recently Environmental Resource Management which focuses on Sustainability. In addition to learning about various types of energy and sustainability concepts, students in this class are a part of our Green School Initiative and assist with our Cafeteria Compost, Campus Recycling, and Aquaponics projects. As the Sustainability Coordinator, she is helping the school become a more sustainable and earth friendly campus and works with community partners such as the Kokua Hawaii Foundation and First Wind to accomplish this.

She enjoys teaching and especially helping students reach their potential. She loves to see the fire in students when they are engaged in learning and motivated to achieve their goals. She feels it’s very important to give students opportunities to learn outside of the classroom and encourages them to give meaningful service whenever possible.  Uila is currently on a temporary assignment as the Vice Principal over 9th grade and she is part of a talented leadership team under the direction of Principal Pauline Masaniai.  She is a proud Red Raider for Life (RR4L)! GO BIG RED!!!

Anne Workman – Board Member

Anne Chase Workman is a graduate of Laie Elementary School and a member of the proud Red Raider Class of 1988.  She was born to two educators and followed in their footsteps when she graduated from Brigham Young University-Hawaii, first with a bachelors degree in English, and after an additional year, with a secondary education teaching certificate.  She has taught several courses at the university level as well as for a private school in Japan.  After her fourth child was born, she decided it was time to be a full-time Mom.  She and her husband Eric now have 7 children and 1 grandchild.  They have lived most of their lives in Hawaii, but also spent time in Japan, Utah and Michigan.

In addition to being a Mom, Anne has spent much of her time over the past several years as the director of a summer camp for teenage girls, teaching Jazzercise, instructing an early-morning scripture study class for high school students, and acting as a community organizer.  She volunteers with the Red Raider Marching Band, with the Mormon Pacific Historical Society, with Boy Scouts of America, and has served as the secretary of KEAC.

Anne is motivated by her love for Ko’olauloa, and an expectation that the abundant resources of our community can be aligned to better prepare ALL the young people of the area to lead happy, productive lives beyond high school.  She wants to ensure that 1) young people can build careers to provide for their families by becoming masters in their fields, and 2) ensure that they can become financial, political and social advocates for themselves in a complex society.

Anne likes to be useful and enjoys spending time with family, talking to people, admiring nature, learning, exercising, and thinking about gardening.

Kahuku.org – Sariah Howard
Sariah is an interest gypsy with a passion to learn, grow, and make a positive difference in whatever corner of the world she finds herself. She was born in a rural  Wyoming town (500 people strong) and is the oldest of 9 (5 boys 3 girls). She grew up watching and helping her father in his own business building log cabins, chopping firewood, and helping on an electric array of projects in the yard which instilled an eye for seeing the world through a creative lens (my fathers is one of the most creative, resourceful individuals I know!) The time spent with her mother in the garden and around the house taught her to work hard and fill each moment with something good. Perhaps the most important thing her parents taught her tho was to love the Lord, serve others, and have faith that everything will work out for our good in the end. 

Sariah’s interest gypsy ways sent her traveling to Hawaii in 2006 where she graduated from BYUH with a Bachelors in Interdisciplinary studies. She made her own major, asking the question “How could media be used to invite positive change?” While there she worked with the TV Studio on campus learning how to produce and tell stories through videos. During and after graduating Sariah found opportunities to learn skills in marketing, public relations, graphic design, website development, project management, and further her love for video production by starting her own consulting business. Soon after Sariah went on to pursue a masters degree in Entertainment Business online (combining the creative and strategic worlds) which she completed in one year at the top of her class. 

June of 2014 brought her wondering gypsy feet to the doors of Kahuku.org. Where as the program manager she has encountered incredible stories. Her hope that is through the electric array of experiences she has been given she will be able to make a solvent business that will truly be a great learning lab for all students who cross its path.

If you can’t find her at Kahuku.org you will probably find her looking up at the sky searching for clouds in the sky as she pursues writing her first book.
